Studies on the entomopathogenic nematodes of Kerala
Years of Experience 12 years

Salient Findings :

  • Studied in detail about the morphology and taxonomy of native entomopathogenic nematodes.
  • Standardised the technique for mass multiplication and long term storage of entomopathogenic nematodes.
  • Studied the ecological characterization of native entomopathogenic nematodes and identified the most suitable candidate against different pests.
  • Identified most virulent entomopathogenic nematode against Coconut root grub, Leucopholis coneophora (Burm.) and proved its pathogenicity under pot culture and microplot condition.
  • Standardised the technique for mass multiplication, formulation and long term storage of a nematophagous fungi, Paecilomyces lilacinus.
  • Management of plant parasitic nematodes in coconut based high density multispecies cropping system by using native antagonists, plant products and vermiwash.

Area of Research:

  • Plant parasitic nematodes associated with cotton and their management
  • Isolation of novel insecticidal proteins from bacterial symbionts of native entomopathogenic nematodes
  • Use of entomopathogenic nematodes for the management of major insect pests of cotton.
